Bringing Nature to Life: The Journey of Creating a Nature-Inspired Mural in Motherwell, Scotland

I am so chuffed to share my latest project. Recently, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Keir Hardie Memorial Primary School and Scotland's Railway on not just one, but two vibrant murals on their grounds.

Blue Tit Mural

Inspired by the school's sensory garden and the nature that inhabits it’s surroundings, I spray painted the side of the school wall with a large blue tit enveloped in flowers and foliage. This wee bird is a regular visitor to the sensory gardens and I had several visits from a few during my time at the school. I incorporated the school crest into the design of the blue tit, representing the school’s pride and identity. I also wanted to incorporate the school’s colours, which were maroon and light blue.

School Motto Mural

Inspired by the School’s motto, "ready, respectful, safe” I painted a large steel container in the centre of the playground. This important message not only embodies the ethos of the school but also serves as a daily reminder for pupils, staff and visitors to the school grounds. The motto was given a playful twist and was spray painted with a bright and vibrant colour palette and incorporated organic shapes and patterns inspired by the natural surroundings and Scottish landscape.

Scotland’s Railway has been working closely with Keir Hardie, aimed at transforming the school grounds. This ongoing collaboration has sparked positive changes, enriching the school environment.

A massive thank you to all the pupils and staff Keir Hardie Memorial Primary School and Scotland’s Railway for their incredible support throughout this project! 🚂🌻🍃🐦🎨🌈
